Frequently Asked Questons

What is the difference between a licensed provider and a non-licensed care professional?

A licensed professional is someone who possesses a license from their state of residence, an accredited medical board, or licensing body to provide mental health services to patients. With a license comes a requirement to follow standardized ethics, best practices, and applicable laws around the delivery of patient services. A non-licensed care professional is someone with applicable training, experience, or who possesses training certifications geared towards their area of specialized focus. Because they are non-licensed, these professionals are not required to adhere to the same level of oversight to ensure compliance with professional standards of care as a licensed provider.

Do we accept insurance?

We are not in-network with any insurance providers, including Medicaid. We can provide a superbill for you to submit on your own for reimbursement based on any out-of-network benefits you may have.

Am I able to use out of network benefits?

Because we do not accept any insurance reimbursements there is no difference between in network and out of network payment for our services. We charge a standard rate based on each provider’s license types, qualifications, and experience. If you plan to seek reimbursement with your insurance provider just let your therapist know and we will provide you with a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company. You would pay us up front, and then your insurance company would reimburse you directly based on your plan’s out-of-network benefits.

What is an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and do you accept EAP reimbursement?

Some employers use a third-party company to facilitate the delivery of a certain number of sessions as a support for their employees when needed. These programs and the benefits can be different from employer to employer. These services are typically paid for in part or in full by the employer up to an approved number of sessions. We are not in network with any EAP companies. We can however accept direct payment from an employer for services rendered with a prior agreement to have invoices submitted directly to the employer for reimbursement.

Can someone else pay for my treatment?

Yes, you will have to sign an authorization of release to allow your provider to speak with the person or organization that will be paying for your services so we can establish written permission for billing. Just know that if a third party is paying for your care some disclosure of personal medical information, treatment goals, treatment outcome, or treatment progress might be necessary to get services approved. Once we have an agreement for billing in place, we can keep a form of payment on hand or invoice the third party to cover your care.

How many sessions will I need and how frequently will we meet?

This is determined on a case-by-case basis with your therapist. Many clients notice improvement within 12 sessions. On average, clients work with us from 3-6 months but this can vary based on a variety of factors. It is our goal to provide quality care that progressively helps you identify the specific drivers or components of your individual struggle. Once identified, treatment then becomes focused on creating the healing necessary to eliminate unwanted symptoms, stressors, or experiences. It is common to meet with your therapist weekly, but frequency is determined in collaboration with your therapist based on your needs and availability.

How long do sessions last?

The standard therapeutic session time is 45-50 minutes. Couples and family intake sessions may be 90 minutes in length depending on the preference of the provider. You and your therapist may determine the need for a shorter or longer session which varies by case and is on an as-needed basis. Be aware also that some specialized treatment techniques or assessment may take more than the 45-50 minutes to effectively administer. If more time is required, for any of the above reasons that will be communicated to you prior to the start of the session.

What do sessions cost?

Session rates are set based on the provider you choose. Each provider’s license status, type of license, advanced training, and years of experience are calculated to determine the rate for that provider. That rate can be found on each provider profile page. This way you have the ability to choose what level of experience you would like to have in your provider. There is a $50 additional charge for couples counseling due to the longer length in time.

How do I pay for my sessions or group therapy?

You pay your counselor directly at each session. Billing is tracked through our Client Portal and receipts are provided electronically upon request.

* Credit/ Debit Card: All major credit cards are accepted
* HSA / FSA Credit Cards
* ACH deposit

How do I choose a provider?

You can choose your own provider at the time of booking. If the provider is not available, we will gladly assign you a provider based on several factors including your availability, your providers availability and your specific issues. If you do not want to choose, you can also request at intake that a provider be assigned and we will assist you in finding a fit based on the reasons you are seeking services.

Do you offer in-person sessions?

We are a fully online service provider at this time. We do not offer in-person visits. However, if in-person is what you prefer, and you are a Texas resident, we are partnered with New Solutions Counseling Center, LLC. They have a variety of options available to provide in person treatment.

What is your Cancellation Policy?

We understand that situations do arise, and sometimes at inconvenient times. Therefore, if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, you must do so 48 hours before your scheduled appointment time. Please reach out to your counselor or send an email to helpdesk@thebalmcounseling.com. If not, you will be charged in full for your scheduled session if you fail to contact your counselor in advance. This charge must be paid before or at the time of your next appointment to continue in the counseling relationship.

Can I see a Therapist right away?

There may be times when a therapist is available at the time you request. Therapists have several patients on their caseload and each provider does his/her best to accommodate special scheduling needs. Patients are encouraged to be flexible and work with the provider to find a time that works for both. You will still need to fill out all the necessary forms and be patient for your evaluation to be complete before any scheduling can occur.

I see you are a faith based provider, what if I am not religious, can I still see one of your counselors?

Absolutely. All of our therapists and counselors are here to advise no matter what your faith/non faith, spiritual ideology, theology, or religious belief is. We are here to help the individual themselves.
